Bulgaria deserves to join Schengen because it is the most reliable external border of the European Union, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on 19th of February during his visit in Bulgaria.
He and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov discussed migration and the prospects of the Western Balkans’ EU membership. According to Orban, the EU should focus on protecting the external borders rather than offering migrant relocation schemes.
According to Borisov, border security, construction of hot-spots and the agreement with Turkey are key to tackling the migration crisis.
Orban has presented a package of proposals for changes to the Union's migration policy, which Borissov promised to consider as chairing the Council of the European Union. They both expressed hope that Serbia and Montenegro would be given a date for joining the Union this year.
