A working group was set up to propose amendments to the Bulgarian Citizenship Act by the end of the year, the Minister of Justice, Tsetska Tsacheva, said on 30th of October in Stara Zagora. She admitted that the Agency for Bulgarians Abroad has problems related to the issuing the certificates of personality and origin. From May 2017 until the end of June this year, the Ministry of Justice has proposed to the Vice President to refuse Bulgarian citizenship to 750 people for various reasons, including 96 with previous criminal record.
Tsetska Tsacheva, Minister of Justice: A working group has the task of changing the Bulgarian Citizenship Act in two main directions - the first is the acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship by origin, where the provisions of Art. 13 of the Act must be refined. The second is related to the possibility of acquiring Bulgarian citizenship through naturalization through so-called investments. I have the assurance of the Ministry of Economy that they will give an opinion to see what the real effect of these investments is - are real jobs created, is there employment.
