Two young people from the Bulgarian coastal town of Chernomorets put a box of food on a tree in the town centre, their idea being to make it available to people in need during the coronavirus state of emergency.
One of them, Stilyana, a student in Bourgas, but currently living in her birthtown, Chernomorets, for the period of the lockdown measures, decided to provide help for those in great need. Her boyfriend made the box.
Stilyana Nikolova: We need to show that as Bulgarians we are united, that we care for each other and do something to help fellow citizens.
Yordan Enchev: We need to look within ourselves, to find the good in order to help. Today I have, but tomorrow I may not have. You never know, tomorrow I may need help and take from this box.
The mayor of the town welcomed the idea. He explained that only five people in the town have so far said they need help.
He added that the box was full of food when it was placed on the tree. The next morning it was empty, which he says means that obviously somebody needed it.
The good-hearted young people say that good is also contagious, and urge other people to follow their example. They will put more food boxes in nearby villages.
