The music festival ‘OPERA OPEN’ started on 17th June. The event is a successor of the renowned ‘Verdi Nights’ festival which has taken place for more than 30 years at the Roman theatre in the city of Plovdiv.
The festival started with the scenic cantata ‘Carmina Burana’ by Carl Orff.
The world famous bass singer Paata Burchuladze, a soloist of Bolshoi Theatre, La Scala and Arena di Verona, arrived in Bulgaria to participate in the event. He will be a special guest at the summer festival and will perform at the gala concert on 21st June dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the famous Bulgarian bass Boris Hristov. Paata Burchuladze will sing arias from ‘Boris Godunov’, ‘Don Carlos’ and ‘Nabuko’.
The guest star, Elisabet Strid, the soloist of Chicago opera will sing in ‘The Ride of the Valkyries’.
As part of the tradition, the programme includes Verdi works. One of them is ‘Aida’ featuring the celebrity soprano Hui He.
The audiences will enjoy the Bulgarian singers, Vladimir Stoyanov, a leading baritone, in the role of Marquis of Posa in ‘Don Carlo’ and Kamen Chanev, a tenor with a successful international career in ‘Aida’, as a partner of the Chinese Hui He.
