Some 100 people have been detained during an operation against illegal migrants in Sofia, the Head of Sofia Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, Commissioner Mladen Marinov, said on 19th of July.
The police operation started on 18th of July and is on-going. Marinov explained that the number of detentions was expected to grow. He said that the 100 detained so far were undocumented persons who were to be identified. “There is a procedure. They go through interviews, ascertaining of identity, medical examinations. They do not have any ID documents and the police will follow the official procedure in order to establish their country of origin,” he said.
