More than 200,000 Bulgarians attended the National Festival of Folklore and Livestock Breeding “Rozhen” during the weekend, the organisers said at the closing night on 17th of July.
124 laureates, both individual and group performers, were selected among the 4,600 participants in the folklore competition. 28 performers of authentic Bulgarian folklore received the highest award – golden plaque. Thousands in the audience applauded the pipers and the singers. Rozhen once again turned into one of the largest and most awaited folklore events in Bulgaria.
The décor for the traditional contest of pipers was a huge Bulgarian flag. It is 36 metres long and 26 metres wide. The flag was made especially for the festival. It weighs more than 700 kg and has a total area of 7800 square meters.
