40% growth of tourists in Plovdiv

40% growth of visitors in Plovdiv has been registered since the beginning of this year. In addition to the historical sights, this summer the tourists visit the archaeological research site of the Eastern Gate of Philippopolis, which is on the territory of the modern city.

The increase in visitors to Plovdiv was reported on the basis of the sale of tickets for the cultural events in the city. This includes tourists who have visited some of the sights in the Old Town.

This summer the most-visited tourist spot is the new archaeological research of the Eastern Gate of Philippopolis, which was the main link between the ancient city and Byzantium.

The Eastern Gate has already been transferred for management by the state of the municipality of Plovdiv. There is a restoration of the site and the construction of a tourist centre.
