10 people were injured after an explosion in the military plant “TEREM-Tsar Samuil” in the town of Kostenets, in the South East of Bulgaria. The incident took place shortly before 9.00 a.m. on 8th of August and happened during dismantling of ammunition, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence said.
A spark near the chemical compound tetryl caused the explosion, the Minister of Defence said.
There is no risk for the life of the people and no pollution in the air, the health authorities explained.
No secondary blasts are expected, the authorities assured.
The plant management promised to cover the costs for the damages. The windows of 40 residential buildings were cracked or broken as a result of the explosion.
