16 year old boy died after a four wheel drive hit him at a pedestrian crossing on the road Sozopol-Bourgas (Bulgarian seaside) on 20th of November. Initial inspection of the scene of the accident shows no skid marks.
Speed limit in the area is 60 km/h.
Cars move at a great speed despite the speed limit signs and the camera located at the junction.
There is no school in the nearby village of Atia and the children travel every day either to Sozopol or to Bourgas to go to school.
At 7 o'clock this morning, a boy from the village of Atia was crossing the road to get to the bus stop. He was going to catch the bus to go to school to Bourgas. The boy was swept off his feet by a four wheel drive coming from Chernomoretz.
The driver is a 59 year old man. The police investigation found no signs of braking as there were no skid marks from the vehicle’s tyres on the road.
A BNT camera at the same pedestrian crossing today saw that none of the passing vehicles slowed down or stopped at the crossing.
The 16 year old boy died at the scene of the accident. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
