The police in the coastal city of Bourgas installed 7 checkpoints around the city because of the increased pressure of illegal migrants. Cars and lorries are being checked.
The checkpoints are located in places where there is information about increased migration pressure.
"The checkpoints, which have been built entirely on the territory of Bourgas region, are already yielding results. As of mid-day yesterday, we have identified and detained 5 persons who were directly involved in the transportation of persons with the profile of migrants and 30 persons whom we define as migrants who illegally crossed the Bulgarian border. Last night, 2 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, moving in a pack, one of which was most likely the lead vehicle, followed by another vehicle in which 7 migrants were identified. The two drivers of the vehicles were detained," said Marin Dimitrov, head of the Bourgas Security Police.
The checkpoints will remain at different locations for indefinite period of time.
