No one has been injured in the flooding caused by the heavy downpour in the town of Karlovo on August 22. Several people were evacuated, including a 92-year-old woman and employees of the local railway transport school, because the water swept away the entrance to the school building.
The ground floor of the local hospital, where the haemodialysis unit is located, was also flooded. The patients were removed to a place of safety.
"There is no danger for the population. The peak of heavy rain is over. The eastern part of the town was most affected, where the riverbed could not hold the huge amount of water," Nikolai Tsvetkov, deputy mayor of Karlovo, told BNT.
The municipality will set up a committee which will start assessing the damage from the storm tomorrow. Seven teams of firefighters from Karlovo and Plovdiv are working on the ground. 8 pumps are in continuous operation.
There are dozens of reports of flooded basements and ground floors, there are also washed away road surfaces.
