Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov was diagnosed with coronavirus only a day after the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) lifted his quarantine.
As of today, October 25, more ministers who have been in contact with him are under quarantine.
The RHI already has the names of all those who had been in contact with Borissov since Friday, and they are all under quarantine.
It is still not clear where Prime Minister Borissov became infected. All that is known is that he was in contact with Deputy Regional Development Minister Nikolai Nankov, who tested positive for coronavirus. The two, together with Finance Minister Kiril Ananiev, toured the country in the Prime Minister's 4-wheel drive. After two negative tests, the quarantine of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance was lifted. However, today, October 25, PM Borissov tested positive.
In a post on Facebookt, Borissov noted that despite the lifting of the quarantine, he had canceled all his meetings since last Friday. He also informed the American delegation, with whom he met before the self-isolation on Friday.
The PM has a general discomfort and it is not necessary to be substituted by a deputy prime minister, as is the procedure in the event of a more serious deterioration in the Prime Minister's health, the government press office said.
Everyone who was in contact with the PM has self-isolated, including Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova, Transport Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov, Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev. They will be tested. As it became clear, the quarantine does not apply for people who are important for the security of the country, as well a for people who work on the front line of the pandemic and their quarantine can be lifted if they tested negative in two consecutive PCR tests.
Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev, also in post on Facebook, on October 25, said that he had taken another test and it was again negative.
Radev decided to take a test after the news of the positive result of the President of Poland after his participation in the summit of the "Three Seas" initiative in Tallinn. The President stated that he had no symptoms or complaints.
The head of state wished a speedy recovery to all diagnosed with the virus, including his counterpart Andrzej Duda and the Prime Minister.
