Bulgaria’s President Rossen Plevneliev officially announced that 25th May would be the date for the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament.
In an address to the Bulgarian Parliament on 14th March, President Rossen Plevneliev reiterated that it would be appropriate to hold a referendum at the same time as the European Parliament elections. He suggested that the political forces should restrain from smear campaigns and discrediting their opponents during the pre-election campaign.
According to the Head of State, Bulgaria is in a combination of crises and there is a risk the social peace to be easily disturbed.
In his address the President stated that the electronic government should start working by the end of 2015 and remarked that the forthcoming European elections should not delay the reforms.
The President also commented that the conflict in Ukraine might have lasting consequences. Plevneliev said that if tension escalated he would convene the Consultative Council for National Security.
