The annual beans festival was held on Saturday, 28th of November, in the village of Smilyan located in the heart of Rhodope Mountain, South Bulgaria. Local farmers provided 150 kilograms of beans, which were cooked by culinary talents who offered various dishes to the hundreds of guests of the festival.
As part of the tradition, the event was opened with shooting of the “beans” cannon.
For 13th consecutive year, farmers displayed locally grown varieties of beans. This year has produced good beans harvest, about 30 tonnes, although the amounts are less than last year’s.
Smilyan is known for its particularly tasty beans. Every year since 2003, the village has held a festival in November to honor its famous beans.
