BNT Marks World Television Day

By resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1996, 21^st of November was prclaimed World Television Day. The inclusion of this date in the calendar of the largest international organisation recognizes the increasing impact television has as an important factor in shaping public attitudes.

As part of the tradition, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Association of Commercial Television in Europe (ACT) and the Association of television and radio sales houses (EGTA) join forces to celebrate World TV Day.

As a public service media and a regular member of the EBU, the Bulgarian National Television will broadcast a 30-second video clip produced by the three prestigious European organisations of the television operators. the video will be also included in the programmes of the operators in Europe, Asia, Canada, the USA and Australia.

The social networks campaign will use #WeloveTV and #WorldTVDay hashtag.

Recent studies by the EBU in 33 countries show that the level of trust in traditional media is growing throughout Europe, as people are increasingly questioning the veracity of what they are watching and reading online. 70% of respondents trust the information received from televisions, and in 11 of the surveyed countries television is still the media leader of public trust.

The World Television Day was proclaimed by the United Nations in 1996, and the date marks the first World TV Forum held under the auspices of the international organization. Its marking is in recognition of the growing role the media have on international processes and the great power of audiovisual media to raise public awareness of issues that are important to mankind.
