‘Fairy Tales of Sand’ is this year’s edition of the sand sculpture festival which will take place in the Black Sea coastal city of Bourgas in the South East of Bulgaria. The event will be opened this evening, 3rd of July, and will feature about 65 figures of fairy tales characters built in over 20 compositions. Over 4, 000 tonnes of beach sand have been used for the creation of the sculptures.
Ognyan Petkov, a Bulgarian sculptor from Bourgas, has built Baron Munchausen who is his favourate character.
The characters from the TV series ‘The Flintstones’ were created by the Bourgas sculptor Atanas Stoyanov. Anatoliy Lunin from Moscow is the author of the figures of Masha and the Bear from the children TV series of the same name.
Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy favourite charatcters from ‘Ice Age’. ‘Despicable Me’, ‘Asterix and Obelix and many other figures masterfully built by 10 sand artists from Norway, Portugal, the Check Republic, Belgium, Ireland, Ukraine and Latvia.
The Festival of sand sculptures in Bulgaria was first opened in July 2008 in Burgas.
For seventh year, the Sea Garden in Bourgas becomes the host of castles, towers, all sorts of marine inhabitants (and not only), mermaids, pirates and other charming creatures.
Special night lighting illuminates the unique charm of the city of sand.
The exhibition is due to run until the end of September 2014.
