Brussels provides € 71 million for emergency medical assistance in Bulgaria

Some € 71 million from Cohesion Policy funds will finance the improvement of the equipment, efficiency and accessibility of emergency health services in Bulgaria. Under this new EU-funded project, all 237 emergency units across the country will be able to improve the state of emergency wards and provide them with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

The EU will co-finance the purchase of 400 new ambulances, equipped with modern means of communication and life-saving devices, which will allow rapid and effective assistance, especially in more remote areas and among the most vulnerable patient groups.

The European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Crețu, said: "This EU-funded project will significantly improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare in Bulgaria. It is a clear demonstration of the practical benefits of cohesion policy as a means of providing better protection for our citizens."

The project will contribute to good quality and fast service to patients, while also improving the economic efficiency of the entire system and the working conditions of medical staff.
