In a closed meeting of Bulgaria’s Council of Ministers on 7th of October, Bulgaria’s Minister of Defence, Nikolai Nenchev, submitted a draft intergovernmental agreement for consideration and approval. The draft is on logistic support for MiG-29 fighter aircrafts in Poland, the press office of the Defence Ministry announced.
The Government approved the draft and gave a mandate to Minister Nenchev to sign the intergovernmental agreement with the Polish side.
To prepare the draft, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Defence has explored the possibilities available within EU and NATO for carrying out integrated logistical maintenance of MiG-29 aircrafts. The research showed that Poland was the only country within the outlined extent, which has abilities to maintain and repair MiG-29 aircrafts, the defence ministry points out.
The proposed agreement aims to ensure the airworthiness of MiG-29 aircrafts and contains provisions on the repair of 6 engines as well as temporary use of 2 Polish engines for a period of 2 years.
The agreed price for the repair is 1,023,000 euro per engine. The transport costs will be borne by the Polish party to the agreement. The first two Polish-made engines will be provided within 20 days after the agreement comes into force, the announcement of the defence ministry says.
