Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov delivered an official speech before the UN General Assembly on 28th of September. This year's main topic of the UN General Policy Debate is "Global leadership and shared responsibilities for peaceful, equitable and sustainable societies”. The Prime Minister called for doubling of joint efforts for peace and stability in Ukraine. He spoke about the fight against terrorism and the need of preventing young people from radicalisation, about migration processes as a global issue and the the role of the Western Balkans.
Boyko Borissov: Prime Minister of Bulgaria: The moment is really historic, that is why we have to support them in their quest to make the new choice for their country. Two other neighbouring countries face a very difficult dilemma. We support the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, we welcome their striving for normalisation of bilateral relations with the EU mediation. At the same time, we believe that at this stage a possible redrafting of borders is not a workable solution. In principle, we are opposed to redrafting of borders. In October this year, there will be important elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be a key test for the unity of the country and its will to move forward on the road to European integration. As you can see, the situation in this part of Europe is very dynamic and saturated with important events. They will predetermine the direction of development of the region for many years ahead and, to a large extent, the state of the whole European Union.
