On 18th of March, Bulgaria’s President Rossen Plevneliev made an address before the Parliament to present the results of the month of political consultations with representatives of all parties represented in Parliament.
“We discussed the current political situation in the country and look ahead towards Bulgaria 2030 agenda,” he said.
"We have to look ahead and set new national goals, which will mobilise the Bulgarian institutions and society," the President noted. He added that such goals could be: building of socially responsible economy; elimination of poverty and social exclusion; targeted support to the regions, whose development is lagging behind; entry into the euro area; starting a European Energy Union on the Balkans and others.
He said that Bulgaria had the unique opportunity to have an ambitious approach and to set clear long-term strategic aims for development.
He noted that all political parties he held talks with had agreed unanimously on the importance of judicial reform and fighting corruption.
As regards the forthcoming presidential elections, the President said he hoped these would be the only elections this year and that they would be held in a civilized manner thus expressing his position that he did not expect elections “2 in 1”.
After two years of extraordinary instability in the country, now the normalization and calming of the political situation gives its results, the President said. He noted that the economic situation in the country was improving and all major economic indicators show that the economy was on upswing.
