Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov demanded the cancellation of 3 more public procurement procedures. They are in the municipalities of the Bulgarian Black Sea coastal cities of Varna and Burgas and are estimated to be worth 170 million BGN, the website of “24 hours” announced on 18th of February.

Burgas municipality told BNT on 18th of February that the public procurement procedure for the construction of a sport complex in “Slaveikov” residential area was stopped. The construction of the complex was at a very early stage.

On 18th of February, Varna municipality also announced that it cancelled two of its largest public procurement procedures. One of them was for the reconstruction and modernization of the purification station in the Black Sea resort “Golden Sands”, worth 24,487,642 BGN and the other procedure was for construction and repairs of streets, parks and technical infrastructure in Varna municipality, worth 120,000,000 BGN.

Bulgaria’s government decided on 17th of February to cancel a tender, estimated to be worth 484 million, to pick a new contractor to print Bulgarian identification documents.

The government also cancelled a 95 million BGN tender for the construction of forest roads in South-Western Bulgaria, awarded to a company which according to media reports was allegedly linked to controversial MP Delyan Peevski.

The recent cancellations of tenders comes only days after Prime Minister Borissov ordered the tender for the construction of lots 1 and 2 of Hemus motorway, worth BGN 800 M, to be stopped, citing widespread suspicions in the society regarding the transparency of the selection process and the spending of public funds.

Procurement procedures would be stopped even over the slightest suspicion of violations, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said during Wednesday's cabinet meeting on 17th of February. He added that procedures should be conducted under clear and transparent rules in order to eliminate any doubts about their transparency and to ensure the public interests are protected.
