Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov, had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, on December 16. During the conversation, the US Secretary of State congratulated Petkov on his election as Prime Minister and on the successful formation of a new Bulgarian government.
Blinken voiced US support for the new cabinet's priorities in tackling the Covid crisis, the rule of law and anti-corruption reforms, as well as greater energy diversification and independence, stressing the two sides' shared views on the benefits, that such initiatives will bring to the Bulgarian people.
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken expressed the gratitude of the United States to Bulgaria as a reliable ally and partner. Blinken confirmed the desire of the United States to expand its partnership with Bulgaria in new areas such as the promotion of carbon-free energy sources, modernisation of defence, security of 5G networks, as well as other regional matters.
