Bulgaria among US and Europol’s best partners in fight against drug trafficking

Bulgaria is among the best partners of the US and Europol in the fight against the dissemination of narcotic drugs, Bulagria’s Prime Minister Boyko Boriss told Bulgarian media on 25^th of September in New York, where he heads the Bulgarian delegation within the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov commented that it was by no chance that Bulgaria was elected as co-chair of the summit meeting aimed at the fight against the use and dissemination of drugs, because the operations conducted in Bulgaria, such as “Moonlight” and many others are among the the best in the world, carried out jointly by the Bulgarian Special Services together with DEA. Boyko Borisсov also stressed the importance of the strategy adopted by all the countries in the process of dealing with the problem.

Borissov also expressed support for Donald Trump's stance on a new harder US policy against soft drugs legalisation.

Boyko Borisov, Prime Minister: I am firmly opposed to the legalisation of any drug because you see how many problems we have with road safety because of alcohol or the use of some soft drugs.

Bulgaria is ranked first in the world in terms of both detained and convicted traffickers, seized drugs, Borissov said.

Boyko Borisov, Prime Minister: So when I come to the US, I meet friends at the FBI, the Secret Service and DEA.

In the framework of the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Mandela's birth, Boyko Borissov called for the elimination of violence for sexual, religious and ethnic affiliation in Africa and around the world, and he also opted for the empowerment of women and young people who are the future of the world.

Following a series of formal and informal bilateral meetings at the United Nations, the Prime Minister highlighted the one with his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau.

Boyko Borissov: Prime Minister Trudeau thanked me for what Bulgaria is doing for CETA. At the same time, for a long time - more than half a year since the removaof visas for Canada, he thanked me that, as I said, there are no problems with the Bulgarians who travel to Canada – they go there, work and added that he was fascinated by what Bulgaria was doing. Trudeau is willing to come to Bulgaria, to increase business contacts.
