bulgaria greece discuss resumption oil pipeline project between bourgas alexandroupolis

Bulgaria and Greece are discussing the possibility of resuming the oil pipeline project between Bourgas and Alexandroupolis with the aim of supplying oil from Greece to the refinery in Bourgas.

On February 16, President Rumen Radev is on a visit to the Greek capital Athens, where he is meeting with Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Within the framework of the visit, bilateral agreements were signed - on cooperation in exploring the possibility of building the oil pipeline and on cooperation in ensuring gas supplies and gas storage.

It is envisaged that Bulgaria will provide Greece with the opportunity to use the gas storage facility in Chiren and Greece will provide Bulgaria with access to the gas storage facility in Revitusa.

"Bulgaria and Greece have established themselves as a strategic axis of stability and this is already changing the energy map in South East Europe and Central Europe. Today we are signing two important agreements that are a continuation of our efforts in this direction," President Radev said.

The Head of State added that Bulgaria is ready to cooperate with Greece on the project for the transmission of green energy from North Africa and the Middle East to Europe.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the construction of the liquefied natural gas facilities in Alexandroupolis was at an advanced stage. A power plant is also to be built.

"Our cooperation will continue in the future and this is a clear proof of how our countries can cooperate for the benefit of the citizens while also contributing to the prosperity of the whole of Europe. Greece and Bulgaria can be energy suppliers to the whole continent and this is very important in the times we are in," Mitsotakis said.
