Bulgaria backs N Macedonia and Albania’s bid to join EU under certain conditions

Bulgaria supports the European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia, but in the course of the pre-accession negotiations it will set a number of conditions for the Macedonians.

This is stated on October 9 in the framework position of the Council of Ministers, which will be tabled in Parliament. The conditions inlcude termination of the language of hatred towards Bulgaria and the Bulgarians, recognition of the results of the work of the Committee on Historical and Educational Affairs and historical truth, removal of offensive language from signs and historical places, termination of claims for recognition of the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria. Bulgaria's approach will be a milestone: if Macedonia fulfills the conditions, two Intergovernmental Committees will be convened and Bulgaria's support in the negotiations will depend on the meetings of these committees.
