300 Bulgarian soldiers are sent to Afghanistan. The Bulgarian troops will be responsible to guard the inside area of Kandahar Airport – a commitment which Bulgaria has undertaken and conducted since 2007 under the operations of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. By the end of this year, the security of the airport is expected to be handed over to the local Afghan authorities and the ISAF operation will then focus on training the Afghan National Security Forces.
