The early Parliamentary elections will be held on a date between 28 September and 12 October, announced Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev after the end of the Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS) meeting on 17th June.
The CCNS meeting took place at the President’s office and was attended by the leaders of the parties represented in Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Chairperson of the Parliament and ministers. The discussion took over four hours.
The parties agreed that in addition to the specific date for the early Parliamentary elections, agreement needs to be reached on other issues:
- Defining the priorities for the Parliament and the Executive power;
- Speeding up the process of finalizing the negotiations on the Partnership Agreement, which outlines the support from European structural funds for the 2014 – 2020 period;
- Defining clear principles and rules on Bulgaria’s nomination for European Commissioner;
- Guarantees for fair elections.
President Plevneliev thanked the members of the CCNS for the correct and positive debate and the constructive and nationally responsible approach. He expressed confidence that today’s decision of the CCNS was an important step towards stability and clear perspective for the country.
