Bulgarian family of four died in a plane crash in North Macedonia

The bodies of the four Bulgarian citizens who died in a plane crash in North Macedonia were discovered. The victims are a family - a businessman, his wife and two daughters. This was announced by Interior Minister Mladen Marinov at the Council of Ministers on 3rd of April.

At the beginning of today's government weekly meeting, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said he was in constant touch with his Macedonian counterpart Zoran Zaev on Tuesday night to keep informed on the progress of the rescue operation. Bulgaria’s Interior Minister Mladen Marinov announced that his Macedonian counterpart informed him that the rescue teams had managed to reach the crash site. It was confirmed that there were four Bulgarian citizens in the machine. However, Mladen Marinov refused to disclose their identity for the time being.

Bulgaria’s Ministry of Transport will carry out a check on the aircraft's technical condition, Marinov said, adding that he has coordinated the matter with Bulgarian Minister of Transport Rossen Zhelyazkov.

The remains of the airpcraft were found 35 km away from Skopje in an area with difficult access, close to Thessaloniki's head - the highest peak in the Yakubitsa mountain. According to local TV information, the machine was with German registration and the pilot had a Bulgarian license.

The Cessna aircraft was travelling from Ohrid to Sofia. An hour after takeoff, the pilot asked to land in Skopje due to bad weather conditions. A little later he decided to continue to Bulgaria. Before disappearing from the radar, the pilot reported strong turbulence.
