The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 21 came out with a position after Vladimir Putin announced a partial military mobilisation in Russia:
Recent announcements from Moscow escalate concerns. Coupled with nuclear rhetoric and so-called referenda, these troubling developments for the global domain amplify the necessity of consistent support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, the Foreign Ministry wrote on its Twitter account.
Mobilisation in Russia began from today, with some 300,000 people expected to receive notices summoning them to appear for service. There are 2 million Russian reservists who have served in the past 5 years.
Earlier today, caretaker Minister of Defence, Dimitar Stoyanov, said there was a risk to Bulgaria's national security, but not a direct threat. The West reacted strongly to the news, reiterating its support for Ukraine.
