On 7th of February, the Bulgarian police found a group of illegal migrants with frostbites and in critical condition near the Bulgarian border with Turkey, in the region of Malko Turnovo. They were taken to Burgas hospital for treatment. Their condition is not life threatening.
The police found two female migrants frozen to death in the mountainous region of Strandhza. One of them is in her mid-teens and the other one in her 30-ties. The two women entered Bulgaria illegally together with the group of other 18 migrants, including several children.
The rest of the group were found in critical condition and with various degrees of frostbite due to the harsh winter conditions. Bulgarian border police officers made every effort to help them and carried the migrants in their arms to take them to the cars with which they were then transported to the hospital in the city of Burgas.
After receiving medical help, the migrant children are recovering. A man and a woman from the group remain for treatment in the intensive care. They were taken out of comma but their condition is improving.
The Bulgarian authorities will seek to confirm the nationalities of the migrants because they were without any ID documents. After the treatment is finished, they will be accommodated in the migrant centre in the town of Elhovo.
