On 23rd of July, after four days of negotiations in Bulgaria’s Parliament, the political forces reached agreement to table a new draft of amendments to the Constitution in relation to the judicial reform.
This became clear after a meeting of Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov with the leaders of the Reformist Bloc, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, the Patriotic Front, Bulgarian Democratic Centre and the ABC party. The Bulgarian Socialist Party and the nationalist Ataka did not take part in the meeting.
For the time being, the draft will have the support of at least 160 MPs, pending the final decision of ABC party on whether or not they would sign it.
According to Radan Kanev from the Reformist Bloc, it is possible to even get 180 signatures in favour, which would speed up the review of the draft amendments in Parliament. If the new draft is tabled in Parliament tomorrow, 24th of July, the review of the previously tabled draft of constitutional changes will be postponed as an item from the agenda of the National Assembly.
