Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Korneliya Ninova described the party’s performance at the 26th of March parliamentary elections as a success although her party gained the second largest share of the votes. She said she had no intention to resign noting that for the 10 months of her leadership, BSP had increased its support almost three times.
“BSP will not participate in a broad coalition government with GERB because of the principal differences in the platforms, nor will support a government headed by Boyko Borisov," Ninova reiterated after a meeting of the Executive Bureau of the BSP on 28th of March.
“At the polls on Sunday, BSP achieved the best performance at parliamentary elections since 2009," she noted. She added that the party increased its support in the district centres and in Sofia, among the young and educated people. She specifically highlighted that BSP received 5 times higher support by Bulgarians voting abroad, particularly in EU countries.
Ninova said that if GERB did not manage to form a government and if BSP was then handed the mandate, she would try to form a government, but pointed the United Patriots as the only possible coalition partner.
According to Ninova, the elections results showed that BSP had successfully managed to consolidate the left-wing voters.
