The corruption perception index for Bulgaria has dropped by one point compared to last year, which shows that the perception of corruption has gone up, a report of Transparency International for 2018 showed.
Bulgaria is ranked 77th out of 180 countries. Bulgaria continues to have the worst results among the EU member states in the corruption perception index and are commensurate with the scores of some African countries.
Bulgaria is somewhere in the middle on the world map both in a geographical sense and according to the perception of corruption ranking.
Bulgaria’s score is 42. The midpoint for the world is 43.
The lower the index, the stronger the perception of corruption is. Denmark has the best scores and is ranked in No 1 position, as least corrupt, with 88 points out of 100 possible. Syria and Somalia are at the bottom of the ranking.
The survey is based on 12 independent international organisations. The authors warn that when the levels are lower than 50 points, this is an indication that the fight against corruption is ineffective in this country.
