The Chairperson of Bulgaria’s National Assembly, Tsetska Tsatcheva and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Desislava Taneva opened the 14th “Apiculture – Pleven 2016” International Exhibition on 11th of February. More than 150 companies and beekeeping organisations from 17 countries in Europe and Asia took part in the traditional annual forum.
In addition to the variety of honey products, the participants showed the most modern beekeeping equipment, bee food supplements and veterinary medicines.
Minister Taneva announced that for one year, the apiaries in Bulgaria increased by over 11%., the Bulgarian honey was of superior quality and there was a high demand for it on the markets in Europe.
“In 2015, honey production reached nearly 11,400 tonnes”, she remarked.
She said that the industry was export-oriented, as the vast majority of the production went to foreign markets. She gave as an example Germany where the quality requirements for the products were very high.
