Bulgaria’s national Ombudman Maya Manolova said on September 2 that she would be a candidate to be mayor of Sofia in the forthcoming local government elections on October 27. The announcement was made in a video from a meeting with members of the public, public figures and NGO’s.
She said earlier on September 2 that she would resign from the office of Ombudsman if she confirmed her candidacy to be mayor of Sofia.
Maya Manolova: If I stand as a candidate, I will resign. The law does not oblige me, I can take unpaid leave, but I think that honest, respectful and dignified behaviour is to resign and join this race.
