Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Kiril Petkov on June 14 visited the town of Tryavna (Central Northern Bulgaria) to observe the damages after the torrential rain on Sunday. Together with the mayor of the town, Silvia Krasteva, Petkov visited the homes of those most affected by the downpour.
The mayor of Tryavna told the Prime Minister that the local government had no funds to clear and reconstruct the ravines in the town and appealed to the state for help.
The Prime Minister replied that he would send the advisor of the Council of Ministers for disasters and accidents, Eng. Barzov, to look at the report on the damage and reconstruction of the town in detail and see if specific action could be taken right away through the Disasters and Emergencies Committee.
"I want to congratulate the people for dealing with the worst. There is a systemic problem here - government after government, and this problem remains. So now we have to systematically see how to clean these ravines so that they don't overflow but let the water through," Petkov said.
The Prime Minister assured that he would also discuss the issue with the Minister of Interior, Boyko Rashkov.
Tryavna municipality declared partial state of emergency yesterday, June 13. The clean-up continues. The inventory of the damage after Sunday's downpour continues.
