On 5th of August, Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev announced the structure, the composition and the priorities of the caretaker government. In his address which was broadcast live on BNT from the President’s Office, the Head of State said that the caretaker government would be open to civil society and would have more representation of the citizens and clear Pro-European orientation.

The caretaker government appointed by President Rosen Plevneliev is as follows:

Professor Georgi Bliznashki - Caretaker Prime Minister.

Ekaterina Zaharieva is to act as Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic policy and Minister of Regional Development and Minister of Investment Planning.

Professor Yordan Hristoskov is Deputy Prime Minister in charge of social policy and will also head the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.

Hristo Ivanov, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of justice, internal affairs and security and Minister of Justice.

Iliyana Tsanova is Deputy Prime Minister in charge of management of EU funding.

Vasil Shtonov is the Minister of the Economy and Energy.

Mirislav Nenekov – Minister of Health.

Yordan Bakalov - Minister of Interior.

Rumen Porozhanov is appointed Minister of Finance.

Nikolina Angelkova is the Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications.

Associate professor Roumyana Kolarova – Minister of Education and Science.

Velizar Shalamanov is appointed as Minister of Defence.

Daniel Mitov - Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Martin Ivanov – Minister of Culture

Vasil Grudev - Minister of Agriculture and Food.

Svetlana Zhekova - the Minister of Environment and Water.

Evgeniya Radanova - the Minister of Youth and Sports.

At the ceremony for the announcement of the caretaker goverrnment, President Rosen Plevneliev pointed out the main priorities of the Cabinet to be headed by the interim Prime Minister Bliznashki.

• The main task of the caretaker government is to ensure the conduction of fair and free elections;

• Civil Board for free and fair elections will be appointed with the Council of Ministers to provide public oversight of the elections process;

• Signing of agreement on partnership with the European Commission for the period 2014 – 2020;

• Starting a procedure for joining the Single Supervisory Mechanism of the European Union as a first step to join the European Banking Union;

• Preparation of key reforms in the areas of energy, justice, electronic governance and others;

• Start of the progarmme ‘Bulgaria in NATO 2020’;

• Will initiate the establishment of Energy Board with participation of international partners;

• the South Stream project will remain frozen until the European Commission gives the green light for going ahead with its implementation;

• To draft a law for introduction of electronic governance in the Republic of Bulgaria;

• The caretaker government will draft a revision of budget 2014 and will table it for voting in the first working days of the 43rd National Assembly;
