The Head of State stated that Bulgaria supports the European integration of the Western Balkans as an investment in stability. Rumen Radev urged member states to work to consolidate the UN as a leading factor in peace-building, conflict prevention and the fight against terrorism.

The Bulgarian Head of State stressed the need to urgently accelerate progress towards achieving all sustainable development goals related to poverty eradication, better education and health for all, combatting climate change and achieving lasting peace and security on the planet.

He congratulated the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, on the convening of the Climate Summit, and emphasized the efforts Bulgaria was making to comply with the Paris Agreement.

The President also stressed the role of the United Nations in mediating, conflict prevention and peace-building, and welcomed the Secretary-General's vision for comprehensive reform in this crucial area.

Rumen Radev, President of Bulgaria: International terrorism and violent extremism continue to be a significant threat to international peace and security, human rights and sustainable development. The international community should step up its efforts to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation by supporting the UN as a key player in this area. Unfortunately, over the past year, the international community has not made a breakthrough in resolving any significant conflict in the world.

Therefore, he said that urgent action was needed for a political decision, especially for the situation in Syria and Libya.

The President called for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. He also expressed Bulgaria's concern about Iran's decision to suspend some of its commitments under its nuclear program, as well as the escalation of tensions in the Persian Gulf. He also highlighted the role of Bulgaria for the Euro-Atlantic future of all countries in the Western Balkans.

Rumen Radev, President of Bulgaria: The process leading to membership is an investment in stability. Bulgaria pays special attention to the need to overcome the historical heritage in this region by actively building good neighbourly relations.

The message the Head of State sent to the heads of state or government of the UN member states, which he also called his own conviction, was: Our mission is still possible and it is to make all this a reality.
