An announcement of the Press Secretariat of the Head of State on 23rd of July says that Bulgaria’s President Rosen Pleneliev expresses his surprise and indignation with the government’s ongoing activities on the South Stream project, despite the fact that on 8th of June 2014 Prime Minister Oresharski assumed the commitment in public to temporarily suspend the activities related to the project.
The announcement is regarding press releases that the Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) is preparing a decision to sign an agreement with Gazprom to take a loan at the amount of one billion to finance the Bulgarian participation in the South Stream project. The President calls for stopping all activities related to the implementation of the project until it is brought in line with the European legislation.
BEH’s press office stated they did not know of the preparation of such agreement.
