Bulgaria’s state-owned company Bulgargaz, proposes the price of natural gas to go up by 8% from November 1 to BGN 27.64/ MHWh. This was announced by the company on October 21. The proposal is in line with the price of natural gas on international markets. A final decision can only be taken by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) on 1 November.
Even if the new higher price is approved, it will not lead to an increase in the price of heating and hot water in the country, because their price includes a buffer due to the expected increase in the price of natural gas in the winter.
With the proposed increase, the price of natural gas will increase by 47% compared to the price in July. Blue fuel is the main raw material for the generation of heat energy in Bulgaria and forms about 70% of the price of heating and hot water.
The price of gas was sharply reduced in April after reaching an agreement with Bulgaria's main gas supplier, Russia.
