On 27th June, the Bulgarian Parliament voted to accept Sergei Stanishev’s resignation and terminated his powers as MP. 171 MPs voted in favour, 3 voted against and 5 abstained. There were no debates.
Stanishev is leaving the Bulgarian Parliament because he decided to take up the seat of a Member of the European Parliament. Stanishev, who is the leader of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) will start serving his term of office as MEP from 1st of July.
In the two previous days, the Parliament failed to secure the sufficient quorum to hold a plenary sitting.
