Charges have been pressed against the chair of the State Agency for the Bulgarians Abroad, Petar Haralampiev, for leading an organized crime group for bribery and other crimes. Three more people have been charged, including the Chief Secretary of the Agency.
More than 20 people were arrested on 29th of October. The Specialized Prosecutor's Office and the Anti-Corruption Commission are investigating an organized crime group suspected of corruption and document offences.
The prosecutor’s office is expected to give detailed information about the progress on the investigation tomorrow.
According to BNT sources, the group organized the issuing of documents for Bulgarian origin without its real existence, and with them the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad issued certificates, which were presented to the Ministry of Justice in applications for simplified procedure for obtaining Bulgarian citizenship.
