Chief Prosecutor on the Sky News report: I hope it will not be used to Bulgaria's detriment for political purposes

I hope that it is not being used now situationally to the detriment of Bulgaria for political purposes that are not in the interest of our country, Bulgaria does not deserve it, Prosecutor General, Ivan Geshev, commented in frelation to the "Sky News” investigation, which alleged that Bulgarian border guards shot and wounded a Syrian citizen who tried to cross into our country from Turkey.

According to Ivan Geshev, Bulgaria is a European country and respects European standards.

"The Ministry of Interior gave detailed information which establishes that there was no shooting. There is an inspection in Bourgas which has established the same," Geshev added.

The Prosecutor General stressed that Bulgaria meets the Schengen standards and complies with all requirements.

"It would be quite undeserved for our country not to be admitted to this community," Ivan Geshev further said and described the interaction between Bulgaria and Turkey at the level of Prosecutor's office and judiciary as good.
