The construction of the gas link between Bulgaria and Serbia on Bulgarian territory starts on February 1, a statement from the Presidency said on January 30.

The Bulgaria-Serbia Interconnector (IBS) will have a total length of about 170 km from Novi Iskar, Republic of Bulgaria to Nis, Republic of Serbia, of which about 62 km will be on Bulgarian territory, the presidential administration said.

After the construction is completed, the gas link will have a capacity of up to 1.8 billion m3/year with the possibility of reverse flow.

The pipeline is a project of common interest to the European Union, funded by the Connecting Europe Facility.

On Wednesday, 1 February, President Rumen Radev will participate in the launch of the specialised construction works for the Bulgaria-Serbia Interconnector (IBS) on Bulgarian territory.

The event will also be attended by the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. The participants in the ceremony will include the Ministers of Energy of both countries Rosen Hristov and Dubravka Dedovic, as well as the CEO of Bulgartransgaz Vladimir Malinov.

Earlier, the Head of State will hold a bilateral meeting with President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.
