Sofia City Court on July ordered the Municipality in the capital city of Sofia to take urgent measures against polluted air by starting washing the main streets in Sofia twice a month from May to September and once a month for the rest of the year.
Within two weeks, local authorities are required to submit to the court a plan to build more cycle lanes, including from the districts to the city centre.
The municipality is also obliged to announce the levels of fine particulate matter on its website, on the designated boards and at the stops of the public transport and the underground.
The municipality of Sofia said they would not appeal the court order and specified that the measures proposed by the court were part of the municipal programme, which is implemented at present.
