A record incidence of COVID-19 was registered in Bulgaria - more than 220 cases per 100,000 population. This is an increase of 102% compared to the previous week. There is also an increase in mortality – 50%. The alarming data and trends were reported by the Ministry of Health at the regular briefing, which was held in the Council of Ministers on October 29.

The additional measures with which the state is trying to limit the infection came into force today. If the forecasts do not change in a good direction, further measures will be considered, the national coronavirus task force announced.

For another night in a row, medics called for compliance with the measures – physical distance and wearing masks.

Today’s data is worrying. The number of hospital admissions of Covid-19 patients is growing by a third every week. This means that more and more beds are occupied and there is no one to service them.

All indications are that the number of those infected will increase rapidly. For the second day in row over 1,000 new cases were reported in Sofia. There is a significant increase in Plovdiv, Blagoevgrad, Varna and Rousse. Several ideas are being considered on how not to block the system - for example: antigen tests in some cases to replace PCR tests as an official method of diagnosis.

Health inspections are finding it difficult to cover not only contact persons, but also those who are positive for the virus - so in the future they will be notified by text message.

There is no change in schools - only high school students will study remotely. Only 15 primary schools at this stage have requested to switch to e-learning.

The country is approaching 3,000 infected per day. The picture the national task force outlined today does not give cause for reassurance.

"With this rate, which in the last few days can be seen to increase by 10%, the number of newly diagnosed cases is expected to rise to 4,000 in the next 7 to 10 days," said the director of “Pirogov " emergency hospital, Prof. Asen Baltov.
