There is no Omicron variant in Bulgaria so far, the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases told BNT on December 9.
First suspicions about "Omicron" variant in Bulgaria
The 4 cases suspected to be Omicron variant were tested and found to be positive for the Delta variant, which is dominant in the country.
"The four suspicious samples turned out to be negative for Omicron. They are from the Delta variant, but they have a mutation, which is the reason for the suspicions that it was Omicron. Sequencing is constantly being done and the new Omicron variant is being sought." explained Prof. Nelly Korsun, National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.
