“There will be no lockdown in the country. The recent measures with the introduction of the green certificate are giving results," Bulgaria’s caretaker health minister, Stoycho Katsarov, said at a news conference on November 12.

He said that data from the last week show a reduction in the number of infected. The pressure on hospitals is decreasing. Therefore, for the time being there is no need to receive assistance from Europe under the Civil Protection Mechanism, which was activated a few days ago.

In Blagoevgrad there are no vacant beds in Covid resuscitation.

"Currently, of the 119 beds opened, we have only 4 vacant, and 12 resuscitation beds are occupied in the intensive care unit. The beds have been occupied continuously for ten days," said Dr. Ognyan Mitev, manager of the Blagoevgrad Hospital.

In the whole Blagoevgrad district, in the afternoon, there were only 2 vacant intensive Covid-19 beds. The district hospital claims that it is difficult to get some of the medicines for Covid.

"Unfortunately, recently we have started to feel the shortage of some medications with which we treat patients. Urbazon is not available. It is difficult to deliver," added Dr. Ognyan Mitev.

"So far, the health care system is doing well in terms of providing hospital treatment opportunities for all patients, There are enough beds," added Dr. Stoycho Katsarov, caretaker Minister of Health.

The peak of this wave has passed, the health authorities are convinced.

"This Covid-19 wave is actually the most intense and the longest. It took 13 weeks to climb to the peak. At the moment we see that we are going down from the peak," said Prof. Mira Kozhuharova - epidemiologist, adviser to the caretaker Minister of Health.

"There will be no lockdown. The latest measures we took with the introduction of the green certificate have paid off. So far we do not have to receive assiatnce from the European Commission," said Dr. Stoycho Katsarov.

Bulgaria is about to buy the second type of monoclonal antibodies for outpatient treatment of Covid-19. Bulgaria will also order antiviral tablets for home treatment, which are expected to be available in the country in December.

"It will be prescribed to people for a 5-day course of treatment. It should be used in patients with mild to moderate symptoms of the disease," explained Desislava Velkovska, director of drug policy at the Ministry of Health.

"At this stage, vaccine prophylaxis remains the main option for health systems to combat this pandemic," said Bogdan Kirilov, director of the Bulgarian Drug Agency.

Bulgaria’s Health Ministry is to propose extending the Covid-19 epidemic emergency situation a further 4 to 4 months, caretaker minister Stoicho Katsarov told the news conference..
