Cyber security company owner detained over recent revenue agency data breach

The owner of the cyber security company TAD Group, Ivan Todorov, was detained in the morning on July 30. He was detained over the recent leak of personal data from the National Revenue agency. Todorov was arrested at Sofia Airport at 9:05 am as he arrived with a flight from Istanbul.

According to BNT information from Sofia Airport, after his detention, Ivan Todorov was taken to the Ministry of the Interior where he would be given full medical tests before being escorted to the National Investigation Service building.

Todorov is the third person arrested over the hacker attack on the revenue agency. The other two were the trade director and a 20-year-old employee in TAD Group.

The employee, Kristian Boykov, was charged with a crime against the Republic aimed to cause confusion and fear in the public through a computer offence.

The Investigation Department of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the presence of lawyers will charge Ivan Todorov with cyberterrorism, and he will be detained for 72 hours.

According to BNT sources, the prosecutor's office intends to submit a request to the Specialized Criminal Court tomorrow for remand of Todorov. The state prosecution's thesis is that the leak of data from the NRA information system of more than 5 million Bulgarians and the subsequent dissemination of the data has caused confusion and fear in the public. It is for this reason considered terrorism.

The Prosecutor's Office points Kristian Boykov as the direct perpetrator and Georgi Yankov - the trade director of TAD Group as the second instigator, in addition to Ivan Todorov. Yankov and Boykov were released on a bail of BGN 20,000.
