Daniela Doncheva is the new Chairperson of Sofia Appellate Court. She was elected by the Judges’ College of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on 5th of July.
In the past two and a half years, Vesselin Pengezov and Neli Kutskova ran for the post twice. Another candidate was the current acting chair of the court, Stefan Grozev.
Daniela Doncheva told the members of the SJC that the average workload per judge was 13 cases per month. 6,859 court cases were filed to the appellate court in 2015 and the court disposed of 6,809 (rulings issued).
So far, Daniela Doncheva has been a deputy chairperson of the court and the head of the department handling civil cases.
Nine SJC members voted in favour and five voted against.
